It all starts with an idea:

Mutual Aid Society Winnipeg (MAS) was founded at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic as a community-based, judgment-free space for members to help one another in a time of unprecedented crisis. Based on anarchist principles of limited hierarchy and an Indigenous-inspired social operating model of cooperation over competition, in the three years since its inception, our group has grown to a massive community of almost 13.000 people. The aid facilitated by MAS between members includes food, clothing, transportation, household furnishings, and everything in between, with the belief that every member of our community has something to contribute.
